Bio
Ryan O’Kane began acting in theatre as a child in his hometown of Dunedin. He majored in Psychology at Otago University and intended to study medicine but soon realized a passion for the performing arts. Ryan began studying at Toi Whakaari, during his second year at Toi, O’Kane was cast in his first screen role as one of the lead characters, Brad, in The Insider’s Guide to Love, for which he won “Best Actor in a Drama Series” at the Qantas media awards.
Theatre highlights include: North by Northwest for Auckland Theatre Company (ATC), Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire for Silo Theatre, Christ Almighty at the BATS Theatre, New Zealand tour of Appollo 13 directed by Kip Chapman
Television highlights include: The Panthers, My life is Murder, Brokenwood Mysteries, One lane Bridge, Home & Away and Shortland Street
Film Highlights include: Justice for Bunny King, Baby Done, Flamingo, 6 days, Hillary, HOWZAT! – Kerry Packer’s War, Tangiwai & playing the role of Prince Fredrick in Mary: The Making of a Princess for Channel 10 Australia
When not working in Australia, Ryan lives in New Zealand with his wife and two daughters.
